On Sunday, September 29 at 2 pm art educators Marion Abrams and Hilary Emerson Lay will guide kids & families through a craft from their new book Art Sparks, a friendly, approachable pathway to learning essential art skills and a springboard for building self-confidence and promoting independence.
Arts and crafts inspire and stimulate the imagination and can help to boost a child’s confidence. In Art Sparks, the authors prompt children to push their creative boundaries with 53 open-ended arts and crafts projects that foster problem-solving skills and encourage individuality.
Marion Abrams founded the Summer Art Barn in Hatfield, Massachusetts, in 1989. She has a BFA in art education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and has taught art in a variety of public and private schools for more than 45 years. Abrams teaches art workshops at local libraries and schools.
Hilary Emerson Lay is a working artist, the founder of Bubo Arts Collective, and the assistant director of the Summer Art Barn. She has a BFA from Emerson College in writing, literature, and publishing, with a concentration in children’s writing and illustration, and managed The Spirit of ’76 Bookstore in Marblehead, Massachusetts, for 10 years
